VPN access to the Munich Science Network
Some LMU IT services are only available within the Munich Science Network (Münchner Wissenschaftsnetz / MWN). Get access via VPN regardless of your location.
What is the Munich Science Network (MWN)?
The Munich Science Network (MWN) is a secure research network that connects universities and academic institutions in the greater Munich area and parts of Bavaria. For security reasons, some LMU IT services are accessible only via the MWN.
When do I need a VPN?
If you are at home or on the go and want to access internal IT services only accessible within the MWN, then you'll need a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection using a VPN client. You can then access the MWN regardless of your location.
How do I connect to the MWN via a VPN?
Use the eduVPN client recommended by the LRZ. This ensures that all data is transmitted in encrypted form and that all communication is protected against eavesdropping and unauthorized access by outsiders. The main purpose of eduVPN is to provide access to services on the MWN that are not otherwise publicly accessible via the internet.
How do I install and configure eduVPN?
Setup consists of three steps: download, installation, and configuration.
Note: To log in, use your LMU user ID or your LRZ ID and the corresponding password. You can find your LRZ ID in your LMU user account.
